Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep and California Bighorn Sheep in Idaho, compared to other states, hold the best odds of drawing a nonresident tag. Bighorn Sheep are probably one of the finest trophies Idaho has to offer. We have been hunting these majestic animals since 1987. Rocky Mountain Bighorns have been very successful in being transplanted all over the U.S. mainly due to the efforts of hunters, Fish and Game Departments, and a group called the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep. Bighorns are very susceptible to diseases. Our sheep numbers fluctuate up and down but there always seem to be plenty to hunt. If you are lucky enough to draw one of these coveted tags, we will do everything we can to help you get your ram.
The vast majority of past sheep hunters have been successful. We pride ourselves on our success rates but the biggest factor that usually determines whether a hunter is successful or not is the physical condition that they are in. The time to apply for Bighorns is the month of April.
